The following is the market report for the week ending Friday, February 19, 1909 : Wheat.—The quantity oil oiler has threshed 'grain not being m a condithreshed grain not being m lit coi.ciition to place on the mark.it, *,ml farmers are therefore wisely hckln:;?; it m the paddock meanwhile. Those few growers who could guarantee their grain m prime condition ha;re l.e<\n reaping the benefit, securing pnifs well above shipping values, millers buying presumably to mix with old ■nhoat which they still have on hand, and to keep their mills employed. Although with larger offerings prices are oxpwted to fall slightly, bringing the market on a level with London values, it is not anticipated that a heavy drop will be experienced so long as the grain coiri-s on the market m prime shipping condition, as the demand for shipment io London should regulate local prices. Tho present value of prime mil^'i^ wheat is: Tuscan and Pearl, 3s 6}d to 3s 7d, Hunters 3s 6d, but f >r guaranteed quality and immediate delivery Id to ljd more per bushel is obtainable. Whole fowl wheat has been '-oiling will up to the present at 3s Gd, but the demand is now satisfied, and a sharp fall m this description may bo expected, and m ail probability out-of-e<mdi-tion grain will not be worth more than 3s to 3s 3d m future. Oats.—There has been a good demand for all classes, but more cspeciel'V for heavy "A" grade Gamms. which have been taken both for shipment to the London, market and for milling purposes. Farmets for the irost part have been anxious to sell as they thresh, and, m consequence, heavy business has been tho resnU ■Prices have remained firm, aid may do 6O for some weeks to come, or until the Southland crop is ready for tho n>arkofc. when the quantity grown m that district must have a detrimental effect on local prices, unless, meanwhile, merchants have been able to export a sufficient quantity to keep values up. Quotations to-day are as follows: Milling Is 4d, Gartons ("B" grade) Is 3d to Is 3-Jd, Duns Is 2d to Is 3d, Danish Is 2d. Oatsheaf Chaff.—No business lias been reported. Old chaff is now practically off the market, while locally grown oats are hardly yet fit for export as chaff, being too liable to heat when packed closely m this manner; consequently no business has been transacted. Nominal quotations are £2 5s to £2 10s.
