THE NEW EXPRESS TIME-TABLE.
The Minister for Railways, m the course of an interview with one of our reporters yesterday, stated that he was at present busy m arranging the new express train time-table. It was a somewhat difficult matter to fit m the hours to suit everything. The main object was to be able to get the mail services through from one end of New | Zealand to the other as rapidly as* possible. In order to accomplish this the ferry boat must arrive m Wellington at 7 a.m., or 7.30 at the latest, and even then, to enable the mail to ! catch both the New Plymouth and the Napier mail trains might require some slight adjustment of the time-tables on" those lines. In regard to the Gouthern service, the train must getaway from Cliristchurch about 8 a.m. if passengers were to land m Invercargill at a reasonable hour. The Department would have to consider shortening up the time- between the respective termini as far as mail trains were concerned. To get alt the branch trains to fit m with the accelerated service and the altered hours was a matter that took some little time, However, ho hoped to get the new time-table out m a week or two, and it would bo pixt into operation very quickly after it was finally settled.
