ROAD BOARDS.

LONGBEACH. The monthly meeting of the Longbeach Road Board was held at the secretary's office on Saturday. Present —Messrs W. T. Lill, W. Prebble, and T. Mackay. In the absence bfc the chairman, Mr Lill occupied the chair. Apologies for non-attendance were received from Messrs Grigg and Small. The clerk was instructed to^send a letter of sympathy and condolence to Mr Small in reference to the loss of his mother. Correspondence was read: From W. Badger, asking if the Board would take a sum of money in lieu of having to grub gorse off the road adjoining his property.. It was resolved to inform Mr Badger that unless the work • of clearing the gorse off. the road fronting his property was immediately proceeded with the Board would undertake the,work at his expense, and inflict the usual fine. From the Ashburton County Council, notifying receipt of letter as to grant for the study of chemistry.—Received. .. From Mr L. R. Hambly, applying for lease of gravel reserve at Flemington.—The matter was deferred, until' next meeting. , ' ' '.) - The clerk was instructed to advertise for tenders for grubbing gorse on Huntingdon reserve. The surveyor reported that the maintenance man had commenced work at the beginning of the month, and had been engaged in repairing Surveyor's road and Longbeach road. It was decided to reJDair Ford road and Graham's road.

The following alterations were authorised to be made on the valuation roll• H. McGuigan to W. T. Soal; W Anderson to W. J. and J, A. Anderson; F. Neville to, A. Giles. Complaints* were made of cattle being grazed on the road*by-a Flemington farmer, and the clerk was instructed to write and inform him that unless the practice was immediately discontinued legal- proceedings would be taken.

Accounts amounting to £30 8s 9d were passed for payment, and the .meeting adjourned. - . '
