RIOTOUS PROCEEDINGS AT MARTON.
COWARDLY CONDUCT OF A CROWD. .
MARTON, July 29. There was a strong outburst of feeling i - Marton on Saturday night, between ten o'clock and midnight, when a crowd numbering about 200 hooted Constable Fitzpatrick for his action in a recent licensing case at the Marton Court. A ?reat noise was kept up, and stones and 3ggs were thrown about. Several winclows were broken at the Police Station, which was at the time, occupied only ty the constable's wife, who, naturally, was much alarmed. Two local residents, who endeavoured to reason with lie mob, were hustled and quickly si'enced. Constable Fitzpatrick was shouldered out of the way several times, !nit did not get alarmed, and much crelit is given to him for his self-restraint and plucky bearing in what almost amounted to a riot.
