THE ACCOUNTANCY BILL.

To the Editor . Sir, —After wading through the lengthy effusion written by "Another Book-keeper" in last night's Guardian, I notice, according to him, the idea is thoroughly American, that hotbed of Unionism*; also, that the Transvaal Parliament passed an Act, etc.; that in England, Tasmania and other States he finds the same movement. Did he notice some time ago a Court case in England, where a so-called firm of auditors, who had clone their work "by deputy," were sued and had to pay heavy damages, for a financial loss which had been passed by that firm of auditors? I, for one, had noticed the Bill"he supports had been before the people in 1905, but now find that purely out of consideration, I .presume for the late Premier's family, was not re-introduced, not being a fit and proper occasion, no doubt; then was placed in the hands of a more competent pilot, Mr A. L. D. Fraser, M.H.R., to bring this craft safely into port.

It is reassuring to read that those •vho have been a stipulated time in ofnces as accountants will by this association be allowed to register. How good of them, that there will be no directors with power to exact high fees, etc. By I have been correctly informed that fcho way, can he kindly tell me whether this association only charges £1 Is apolication fee, £1 Is diploma, and £3 3s >er annum for all time? If this is so, /hat becomes of these fees ? Will the ssociation require the services of an auditor? His last paragraph reminds me of a lady's letter, the most important item being contained in the postscript : "Each candidate will have to matriculate," etc. If that is so, I can imagine the number of theoretical auditors and accountants that will be available in time to come. OLD INDEX.
