ASHBURTON RACING CLUB.
A committee meeting of the Ashburton Racing Club', was-held- yesterday afternoon at the secretary's office. 11 oseht: Messrs T Upton, C. J. Le Cic» H. F. Nicoll/J. R. Hart, W. B. Denshire, J. Hampton, H Fnedlander, J, C. N. Grigg, W. Hodgkins, and 11. D. Acland. . . . , r An apology was reeened from ALi Malet for non-attendance.. Correspondence was received: — From Messrs Jefferson, Duncan and Robilliard, acceping offices. ' From Mr J. C. Martin, stating that the numbers and the jockeys', machine would be erected on the course the day before the meeting. . From Mr D. M. Robertson, offering to work a double-event totalisator. Members generally expressed themselves against working the machine., and it was resolved to reply that the club did not intend to use it. Mr Upton, chairman of the Ground Committee, reported that several or the suggested improvements had been avoided upon by the Ground Committee, and the erection of horse-boxes, improvement to "jockeys' room, by putting in lockers,, and screens, and several other minor works ■ were practically completed. It was resolved that application be made to the Railway Department for a special train to leave Christchurch at 10 a.m. on September 11 and 12. The disposal of privileges and catering was left in the hands of a sub-com-mittee: . - It was resolved that the Rules Committee should meet at an early date for the purpose of amending the rules. The matter of erecting a caretaker's residence was deferred, pending a report from the Ground Committee. Mr Reynolds was appointed to start the trotting events. Accounts amounting to £35 6s M were passed for payment.
