THE DINNER.

The dinner in connection with the above match was held in the Commercial Hotel, Mr Snodgrasa presiding, Having done full justice to the good things provided by Mrs Nairn, the company adjourned to the social room, where a number of toasts, interpersed with songs, were proposed and dv ly honoured.

Mr P. H. Cox, in proposing the toast of " Tbe winning team," urged that a cricket match be arranged during the coming cricket season.

Mr D. Friedlander, captain of the winning team, responded in suitable terms, dwelling at some length on the merits and demerits of the game.

" The losing team" was proposed .by Mr B. Friedlander, who supported the arranging of a [cricket match.—Dr Bett and Mr Lunn responded.

In proposing fche toast of "Athletics," Mr D. Thomas made a characteristically happy speech. He spoke warmly on the action of the Southern Cross withdrawing their team at the seven-a-side tournament and considered that the Old Boys had acted frivolously in lodging 1 a protest. He desired the Southern Cross Club to apologise, and to see the unpleasant matter amicably settled. ~Mossrs Cook and Mathias responded. The health of the referee (Mr Pritchard) was also proposed and honored.

Song during the evening were sung by Messrs P. Healey, P. White, R. Kennedy, G. S. Mathias, Douglas and David Thomas, Dansey, Pemberthy, D. Friedlander, and F. Pritchard ; and pianoforte solos were given by Messrs Dansey and Curtis.

The Rimutaka, with the New Zealand team on board, ia expected to arrive in England about the 9th or 10th of the present month. The first match will be played against Devon County, and will take place on September 16th.
