Picnic Party at the Domain.
For once in a way the Cleric of the Weather has treated picnic visitors to Ashburton with consideration, and 1000 excursionists who this morning arrived in Ashburton, from Lyttelton and Papanui, were able to proceed to the Domain without delay. With the Lyttelton District High Schcol contingent were the Mayor of Lytteltou,,(Mr Webb), Mr Geo. Laurenson M.H.R. and the headmaster of the District High School. The excursionists were met by the Mayor of Ashburton and the Town Clerk and were welcomed to Ashburton. The Lyttelton Marine Band under Bandmaster Geo. Collins accompanied the excursionists and played several selections during the afternoon. The .picnickers f indulged in various sports and pnstimes, including running races, tugs-of-war, cocoanut cockshies, etc., etc. A punch and judy show was also in evidence.
