OFFICIAL VISIT TO INVERCARGILL. United Press Association —Per Eleotrio Telegraph. Invercargill, Jan.3o _ His Excellency, Lord Plunket, with Sir J. G. Ward as Minister m attendance, arrived here this afternocn oa his first offioial visit to Southland, the principal object being to lay the foundation of the Town Hall on Wednesday. His excellency was met at the station by the Mayor and representatives, driven to the rotunda, and there presented with an address, to which Lord Plunket made a rep y, which was greatly appreciated by the lnrgo assemblage, finishing with the remark, that he was glad to havo brought good weather with him, his previous first experience m other centres having been quite the reverse. i His Excellency, the Mayor, the councillors, and others went to the port after the function was over, at the suggestiom of Sir J. G. Ward, and had a pleasant run m the tug m the Straits.
