Agricultural Conference

AN OPEN CIRCULAR FOR FARMERS

United Presß Association—Hy Electric Telegraph. Christohurch, March 1

The general secretary of the New Zealand Agricultural Conference has addressed a circular to all the Agricultural and Pastoral Associations in the colony, with reference to the conference to be held in Auckland in May. Tho commit!ee of that AssooUt.ion has written ext«ndin£ a hearty welcome to all delegates, and has added that should Auckland be considered too distant for the southern members, rather than abandon the conference it might be hbld in Wellington, as being more central, suggesting that it be held at the same time that the Colonial Conference of the New Zealand Farmers' Union meets, viz., some time in June. It is, however, the opinion of some that, as the various Farmers' Unious throughout the colony are now doing much of the work inaugurated by the Agricultural and Fastorul Afisociati< ns, further action on their part is unneceßßary. At the same time, the cirCftlar ooutinue?, it may fairly be urged that there are matters specially connected with agricultural and pastoral societies which can undoubtedly be best dealt with by men who have for years been connected with them. It has also bo6n suggested that the conference be put off for a year, and during the interval some idea be got as to whether it will bo advisable to continue the conferences—

"Will yon therefore reply to the following questions by wire or by letter as quickly as possible—(l) Do you thiuk the work of the Agricultural Conference is covered by that of the Farmers' Union, and that further action on the part of. the former is unnecessary. If the above is answered in the negative—(2) Do y«u think the next Agricultural Conference should be held this year, or do you suggest ifc being put oil for a year; (3) Do you think it should be held in Auckland or Wellington j (4) If held in Wellington, do you approve of its being held at the same time as the Farmers' Union Conference, and in conjunction with that body."
