Violent scenes were witnessed in the Courthouse at Peak Hill during the inquest on the body of William Tregaskis.for whose murder a Chinaman namad Ah Chick is in custody. .

'Ihe prisoner was present handcuffed, and as he entered the Court Mr Oxley, a Justice of the Peaoc, and son-in-law of the murdered man, struck Ah Chick a terrible blow in the mouth, and felled him to the ground. Oxley was at ouce secured.

Tho inquest proceeded quitely tiH deceased'3 son was giving evidence. He hucled a large stone, striking the Chinaman in the face and inflicting a ugly wound.

There was a violent struggle before the son was handcuffed. The friends of the dead man strenuously endoavoured during the general confusion to get possession of the prisoner, who was defended by the police and the jury.

The inquest was resumed, and a verdict of wilful murder was returned.
