London, October 25 Mr Valentine, the dairy expert, is promoting, and will shortly legister, a Colouiol Produce Distributing Company, with a large capital. He expresses himself confident that s-uch a Company wlil minimise the charges r>f distribution if colonial producers co-operate m taking up shares and divide the profits. In connection with the trail shipment of chilled beef by the steamer Port Pirie, it is fouud that the chilling machineiy wrr stopped at Colombo, and the ni^at had to be frozen. When the machinery stopped the meat was m excellent condition, and experts state they are convinced of the possibility of conveying chilled meat to England, provided sufficient steam is furnished for the refrigerating chamber. The consignees intend to institute legal proceedings owing to the stoppage of the machinery damaging the meat, London, October 26 Irish butter is lower than for a quarter of a century The general opinion among Smithfield dealers is a confident one that chi! led meat •will succeed with greater care.
