Mount Somers Tramway.
RATEPAYERS' MEETING.
A meeting of tbe ratepayers of the Mount Soraers tramway district was held in the Public library. Mount Somers, on August 10. Piesent — Messrs A. B. Peache, J. Hood, A. Harrey, R. Todd, Park, E. F. Wright, J. Milne, W. McClimont, C. Armstrong, A. E. Harris, J. McOlimont, W. Easton, R. Patton, A. Lavery, J. Murray, W. Hood, and others. Letters were received from Messrs C. G. Tripp, J. Harrison, and 0 H. Tripp, regretting that they were unable to 1 attend. Mr A. E. Peache was voted to the chair. After a long and animated discussion the following resolutions were pamed unopposed: — 1. That, in the opinion of thil meeting, there should have been a clause in the lease of the Mount Somers tramway to Mr E. F. Wright, empowering the County Council to resume immediate possession of tho tramway in the ease of Mr E. F. Wright failing to carry out the conditions of the lease ; that the omission of this very ordinary condition is by no means creditable to tbe drawer of the lease ; and that the oversight has been very prejudicial to the interests of the ratepayers concerned; also that- the County Council be respectfully requested to include such a condition in any subsequent leace. ! 2. Thai: Mr E. F. Wright be requested to'write at once to the County Council offering to dispense with the remainder of the three months' notioe he has received from them, without prejudice to any claim they may have against htm under his lease up to the time that they may take possession. 3. That the County Council be requested to accept th* surrender of Mr E;, F. Wiighc's term of notice, should a^t Wright be agreeable. 4. That the County Council be requested to c*ll for tenders fof a new leaaa of the tramway'with as little delay as possible, so that the incoming Jete^e*. shall have time to arrange for rolling stock. 5. That a Committee, consisting of Messrs A. E, Peache, J. Hood, James Milne, and A. Harvey, be appointed by the ratepayers present, and be empowered 1 by Hi em to interview and &ct with tU$ County Council Tramway Committee* Ofy behalf of the ratepayers. 6. That the County Council be recommended to put in a cattle, stop on the I tramway where it crosses the road leading to tho south Ashburton bridge, near tho railway station. 7. That a copy of the foregoing resolutions be forwarded to tho Chairman County Council Tramway Committee, A hearty vote of thanks haying been duly proposed to, and acknowledged 'by'd the Chairman, the meeting terminated.
