New Plymouth, May 10. Mr Goodman, a recently created J.P., was charged this morning at the Magistrates' Court frith assaulting James C. George, and further with using profane, indecent and obscene language in a public place. The charges against Goodman, J.P., failed. The Justices said that they coincided that the offence was of a trivial nature, and dismissed the information. A similar decision was given in the case of using obecene language against the same defendant. Masterton, May 10. Mr Henry Richard Low, late of Norsewood, who recently took the Star Hotel I here, fell from the fire escape this afternoon, receiving fatal injuries to his head, death being instantaneous. I Wellington, May 10. Arrangements are being made to open the public library on Sunday. Probate in the will of the late Premier has been granted by the Chief justice to Mrs Balhnce. The Union Steam Shipping Company has declared a dividend for the half year at the rate of six per cent per annum. The profits on the half year amounted to £11,429, After making due allowance for depreciation, the balance of £17,907 required for the dividend was made up by a transfer from the insurance fund.
