A notification appears m the "Gazette" setting forth that the Governor will grant a free pardon to any person implicated m setting on iire the "Globe" newspaper office m Dunedin, on August 4, not being the principal offender, who will give such information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of any one or more of thp other offenders, and that a reward of £200 is offered to any ptrson not being the principal offender who shall first give such information. Jlwnkrnptcj Case. Judgment was given to-day m the application for rule absolute m the case of G. A. Tapper, a bankrupt, of Palmerston 2iorth, sentenced to six months' imprisonment for not keeping looks. The Chief Justice said the conviction was bad, inasmuch as the bankrupt had not been charged m the District Court prior to hearing the evidence, and the rule would therefore be made absolute- the effect of which is the i eleasc of Tapper. lifbrl Action. Waipawa, August 28. A writ claiming £1000 damages has been issued against the proprietors of the " Waipawa Mail" newspaper by Dr Mirbach, of Waipawa. The writ was not served on the printers and publisher, but it is reported it has been served on the proprietors. The publisher, has applied; to be joined as defendant.
