PARLIAMENTARY NOTES.

(From our Correspondent.) Wellington, December 20. BRIKF MENTION. Government had not time to go through a catechism to-day, all questions being therefore postponed till to-morrow. The Premier lo day announced that Government would abandon the Crown and Native Lands hating Act Fepeal Bill. The House sit till 6 o'clock this mornin?, and disposed of the Education Estimates. The Government expect to get through all Doceßßary business by to-morrow night, and prorogue Parliament on Thursday. The Union Company's express steamer Takapunahas been detained till to morrow evening for Southern membere. In the Legislative Council Councillors i stipulate that under the new urrangements | they shall not be deprived of cherished free passes on railways. Mr Macsrthur will move m Committee on the Loan Bill to morrow, that there will be no further boirowing By the colony for five years, The " Post " disagrees with the action of tbe Houee refusing to raiee the school ege on economical and physical grounds. LAND BOARDS. The deadlock between the two Chom bers, arising out pf a clause m the Land Bill, dealing with Land Boards, has been satisfactorily got over by a comptomise, by which Land Boards shall cootinuo m office until the end of next region with a view to introducing fresh legislation on the subject early next session. Members of Land Boards, who are also member- of Parliament, will not be allowed tp draw fees m tbe interim without rendering themeo]. es amenable to the provisions of the Disqualification Act, CLBABING Ur. In order to get through the business by to-morrow night, work is being very rapidly pushed through, and the House will probably Bit very late again to-night, to transact all neceßcary business. This afternoon the second reading of seven Bills was taken m as many minutes Ministers content themselves with mprely moving the order without remark or explanation. The only remaining measures over which there is likely to bo much discussion aro the Loan Bill and Naval Defence Bill. Wellington, Deoember 21. change of taxation. Mr Tanner has given notice to move the following Important resolution on the first favorable opportunity next session : "That It Is the opinion of this House that it is desirable that a ohange should be made In the form of direct taxation, and tbat Government be requested to repeal the Property Tax Act and bring forward a Land Tax Aot and Income Tax Aot m lieu thereof, the Land Tax to be on the unimproved value of the land without exemption, the amount derived therefrom to be treated as land revenue and paid into tbe land fund account, tbe Income Tax to have exemption and tc be treated as ordinary revenue."
