Auckland, October 5, The HerOttd continues, to publish alarm* ing reports of the alleged monstrous saurian reptile seen in the creek near H-unlton This m ruing it states, on the authority of one of the masters of the Auckland Grammar Schools, that a crea'ure something like a sea-serpent was seen sw mining up the Waikato river lashing the water with its tail, which seemed to furivsh the locomotive and go ding power. The Natives allege it is a “Taniwha” but the Herald inclines to the be lef that it is an alligator. Twi tourists, it appears, saw a water a oust ir with a her ! like an alligator’s la the ■d’aiksto river nearly a fortnight ago, and a year ego near the same spot, a Native bt! was found detd in s stream with the flesh s'ripped from one arm. The general opinion la that it is a “Tanlwha”—in other words a myth.
