DEATH TO THE SPARROW.
VVe do not hold ourselves responsible for the opinions expressed by our correspondents.
To the Editor. Sir, —lt is satisfactory to observe that steps are being taken by the County Council to abate the small birds nuisance, but it is also matter of surprise that those most interested, namely, the farmers, are so apathetic in the matter. Whether the farmers in this district hold such strong views on the question as do those in other parts of the colony I do not know, but it is to be hoped they will co-operate with our local governing bodies in doing the utmost to put down the small .birds pest. I understand that a club called “ The Wakanui Sparrow Club” was started last year, having for its object the destruction of small birds, but as nothing has been heard of this body for some time, am I to understand that the troublesome sparrow has been exterminated ? If not, may I suggest that the club be resuscitated 1— I am, etc., Cock Robin.
