NO HOSTILITIES YET PATROLS EXCHANGE SHOTS ON THE RIVERS DANUBE AND SAVE. (B/ Telegraph.- -Press Association.— Copyright.) (Received July 29, 2 p.m.) LONDON, This Day. Mr. Martin Donohoe, special correspondent for the Daily Chronicle, telegraphing from Semlin, Hungary, on Tuesday, says that no hostilities have yet occurred, except an exchange of shots between patrols on the Rivers Danube and Save. ■> [The above message was put in in London at 1.45 o'clock this morning, which would be equal to 1.25 p.m. here, and reached Wellington at 2.11 p.m. This must be considered very quick work.] AUSTRIAN RESERVISTS IN AUCKLAND (BT TELBGRAPH— PRESS ASSOCIATION.) AUCKLAND, This Day. So far there lias been no response to the Austrian Consul's summons to reservists. There are about four thousand Austrians t on the Northern gumfields. The time that has elapsed is insufficient for the summons to bo widely published. THE LOCAL MARKET ' The effect of the war on. the local stock market hae been virtually to put a stop to business. So little has been done that a-t present it is difficult vto estimate what the result really lias been. On Monday, when the first news of the declaration of war arrived, there was a Budden collapse in business, but a slight recovery incurred yesterday, with more reassuring news. To-day's messages, however^ threw the market back. The most marked effect was visible in the three- standard mining stocks. Their present orioes and tho drop as compared with Saturday's prices are: Waihis, buyers 34s 6d, sellers 34s 9d (drop 3b) ; Talisman, 31s 9d (drop 2s) ; Waihi Grand Junction, buyers 24s 6d, sellers 25s (drop Is). So far the prices of investment stocks have not been affected, but there are indications that stocks which have been difficult to get are <ioming into the market. This applies cMefly to bank shares. WAR RISKS It is not expected that the increase in war' raoes will make any material difference, yet in trade. The National Dairy Association ha« not very much produce afloat at present, and there will be very little sent away until the new season. The Kaipara, the Rotorua, and the lonic are the only boate with butter and cheese aboard, and of these the Rotorua has the largest consignment, viz., 1200 crates of cheese.
