APPLE DAY AND ALPHABETICAL. FETE.

FOE THE RED CROSS,

A meting of tho Apple Day and Alphabetical Fete Committee was held in liallensteins' rooms last night, when Mrs W. Lock presided over a good attendance, and jjorthor a/rrangements were made for this effort in aid of .the Red Cross Fund.

It was decided to hold Apple Day on Wednesday, April 25th (the day of the local elections). A proposal was made that the services of the Eed Cross., street collectors should be availed of for the *ale of apples in their respective streets, and these collectors are asked -to meet the Committee on Thursday evening, the 22nd inst., to make arrangements to that end.

The apples are to be sold in punnets and shoe boxes, and a. number of punnits for this purpose have been promised by Mr Bislev

The Horticultural Society's flower show will be held on Thursday and Friday, April 26th and 27th.

There will also be a number of side shows, which Mr L. Baigent is to be asked to manage. Saturday, April 28th, will be devoted to the Alphabetical Bazaar, which will' open at 11 a.m.

The City Council is to be approached, and asked to grant permission for irowboats to bo placed on the lagoon in the Queen's Gardens durng the fete. From now onward the committee will meet weekly in Hallensteins' rooms, on Thursday evenings.
