SUDDEN RETURN.

ENVOY IN BRITAIN.

Hurried Flight To Poland For

Consultation.

UNREST IN FREE CITY.

United Press Association.—Copyrisht. (Received 10 a.m.) LOXDOK, May 22. The Polish Ambassador, Count Raczynski, has suddenly flown to Warsaw for an important consultation regarding European developments.

Strong demands and counter-demands i between the Polish Government and the | Xazi-controlled Danzig Senate have immediately followed the incident on the Bast Prussian frontier, in which a German crowd, including many men in uniform, set fire to and destroyed a Polish Customs house at Kalthof, and later a Danzig citizen, Herr Gruebner, was fatally shot.

Poland has sent a Note to the Danzig Senate demanding a stringent inquiry into the incident, reparations for the damage done, and assurances of the safety of Polish citizens in the Free City.

The Danzig Senate has sent Poland a counter-Xote demanding compensation for Gruebner's relatives, an apology from the Polish Government, and the surrender of a Pole named Marawski, who is alleged to have fired the fatal shot.

A further Polish Xote has been handed to the Senate amplifying the frontier incidents, says a later message from Danzig.

As the result of a strong protest by the Polish Commissioner in Danzig, M. Chodacki, the Senate ordered the police to rescue the Polish Customs officials barricaded in the Customs bouse at Pieckel. the southern point of Danzig territory, which was being attacked by Storm Troopers. The Xazis dispersed, shouting: "We shall return!"

It is understood M. Chodacki told the Senate that unless the police guaranteed the safety of the Polish officials Poland would take her own measures to protect them.
