TORNADO!!
• Just the other night we had come ; in from a movie, and were ready-for bed, when one .of the Head Men lined us up and informed us that a tornado was due any time soon. So we made sure, that all things were as they.-should be and pulled all the tents down, except the officers’. (There. is a special clause in the King’s Regs .vfhifeji instructs all tornados to stop at officers’ tents). I went to bed ind was asleep instantly. Suddenly it was upon us. Screaming, whistling, terrific. I looked up startled. What was this thing coming straight at me? The padre’s piano I I ducked. Outside all was pandemonium. The R.S.M. shot past me, clutching frantically at. some bean sticks, <hich he had rescued from his garden.. Tents were. flying everywhere I Cases of bacon cooking up trouble for someone,. Trucks ’-’ere overturned, petrol on fire everywhere. The two. cooks were seen aiding high -,over„ the carp on hot boxes. What was this thing that had ever&ken us? Wkxk Was /it. the wrath of some ’.oriental god brought on is for the singing of..’’Nicky Nanky Noo”? Or had'a go nophone'exploded in our midst?- I fought ’myay through-. the wreckage ./ Somewhere ’in there was what I wanted,, f threw things right and left, looking frantically for it. Where was 'it? Ah, there it was I I grabbed it I Ty American issue of t chewing • gum.,• • The--men were lying flat on the ground holding there‘ears' in case they were blown off. I crept down to where the store had been, ft And there was the Q.M. tearing up clothing .’cards frantically.' Half his/worries were over. Suddenly & I thought of our tame ’’key” birds and' battled my way through the, inferno. to let ‘ them loose. -Just as I bent” down to open the cage a terrific whistling, moaning sound struck my ear. I jumped up frantically and . there I. was .. safe . in bed. It was daylight . The place was just as it had been the night before." What a dreamt
