Items A Regular Feature At Service Clubs Voluntary entertainers give much of their spare' time to providing items at the various service clubs in Wellington. At the weekend many clubs presented short programmes, in some cases servicemen themselves contributing. All club reports showed another weekend of intensive activity and large crowds were welcomed at dances held. The A.N.A. Club tenders its thanks to the A.N.A. helpers, who generously gave help and co-operation on Rose Day at.the Wellington railway station. The highlight of entertainment on Sunday night was the delightful music provided by the Ngaio Accordion Rhythmics, who played in the.ballroom till closing time. Many servicemen provided dance music during the week, among them being Gunner C. Young, 3rd Class Physicist Mate, T. Gorski, Corporal F. Thomas, R.N.Z.A.F., and Gunner G. Taylor. The clubrooms were thronged with servicemen throughout the week, and cafeteria helpers were kept extremely busy. The club extends

Stevens; vegetables, Hutt Valley W.W.S.A., per Mrs. L. Pickard ; box of asparagus, Mrs. H. M. Wilson, Hastings; vegetables, Hataitai W.W.S.A., per Mrs. Leigh Hunt; two earcases mutton, Mr. K. Ellison, Te Wharau, Hastings. A World Fellowship- programme was presented by club members., under Miss Frances Drake’s direction, at the Y.W.C.A. yesterday. The Rev. Mr. Falkington conducted a service. Members of the Karori Y.W.C.A., and of the Progressive. Women’s Club, were in charge of the cloakroom, and Teachers’ Institute members and girls of the Census and Statistics Department and of the National Broadcasting Service helped in the cafeteria. Gifts of vegetables were received from the W.W.S.A. land groups at Hutt Valley, Paraparaumu, and Russell Terrace. Members of the Woodford House Old Girls’ Association were hostesses at the Y.M.C.A. tea last evening, with their president, Mrs. H. Gilmer. Sir Harry Batterbee was chairman, with him being Lady Batterbee, Mrs. Caro and Mr. C. Burnett, Y.M.C.A. field secretary, recently returned from 'overseas. Items were contributed by Mesdames Buchanan and Glover and Mr. Bryant, songs, and Miss N. Hyde, elocutionary numbers. Miss Nora Gray was the accompanist. The song leader was Mr. R. T. Wright, with Mr. S. Wood at the piano. The canteen group of the W.W.S.A., under the direction of -Mrs. M. J. Bentley, was responsible yesterday-for making the beds, serving breakfast and morning tea to the servicemen staying at the Y.M.C.A. Women of the Miramar parish were in charge of catering at the Catholic Services Club at the weekend, with the convener, Mrs. Finucane. Hot meals were supplied and gifts of vegetables were welcomed from land girls of the W.W.S.A. Music for Friday’s dance was supplied by Ray Smith, drums, and Pat Kelly, piano, an orchestra playing on Saturday night. The club was open all day yesterday, and after high tea had been served, games and dancing were enjoyed, A.C.I Foley playing dance extras. Mrs. Griffin, the official hostess, was on duty during the weekend. The club is proving a popular meeting place for servicemen. During the weekend, the club was visited by its official chaplain, the Rev. Dr. Treahy.
