TRENTHAM BAND NEWS
A very pleasant evening took place at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Baxter of Wellington. The occasion being the 21st birthday of their son Bandsman R. Baxter, a popular member of the Trentham Camp Band. Amongst the numerous visitors were several members of his Band associates. ■ • The evening consisted of games, singing, and community singing most ably led by Mrs. Baxter, who pos/seses that happy knack of keeping ’ one and all in a state of merriment. Bandsman Ben Cumming gave several interesting items on his piano accordeon. Prior to partaking of the i sumptuous supper and inserting the knife in the elaborate birthday cake, the many friends rose and sang “For He’s A Jolly Good Fellow.” Presents were costly and numerous. Telegrams were in plenty including one from Tasmania. “For Auld Lang Syne” terminated a very pleasant evening.
The Band ranks have been depleted recently through some of the boys be-
ing on leave and others joining up with other units to go overseas, 1 namely Bandsmen O’Leary, Marston, ! Sawyers and Denne. The two latter have already gone overseas. These Bandsmen were all good instrumentalists and will be missed from the I Band ranks.
A choice programme has .been arranged by Captain Pike to play over the air from 2YA in the near future. The following comprises the items:
March, “The Cornet” Ord Hume; Overture, “The Bat,” Johan Strauss; Serio-Comic, “Trombone Sneeze,” Cris Larenson; March, “By Land and
Sea,” H. K. Alford.
