All but three 4jt the Known piisoiiers of war from New Zealand ii. Crete have been transferred to Germany, according to cabled information received last week by the Prisoners of War Inquiry Office.
The latest figure' m the tiles of the inquiry office are:- -Official prison ers: Army. 4519; Navy, 6; Air Force 118: merchant seamen, 20; miscellaneous. 21. Unofficial prisoners: 137. Total, 4827
The cable also advised tha* while awaiting further information ‘.<r defi nite camp addresses in Germany, next-of-kin should send their parcels c/o New Zealand Packing Centre. London, and their letters c/o \gence Centrad ■les Prisonhiers de Guerre. Geneva.
Next-of-kin are informed that once a soldier is officially '.eported a prisoner of war a parcel should be sent to him as soon as'the official lied. Cross label is received from the Prisoners of War Inquiry. Office. Many of the recent notifications have not included a. camp address and a large number of inquirers have asked whether a parcel could be forwarded without a camp address The labels issued in these cases are addressed to the packing .centre in London, and relatives are instructed to fill in details of rank, number, and name. Particulars regarding camp addresses will be added by the centre in London. Offer from Canada. An offer has been received through the Government from Dr. W. A. Riddell, High Commissioner in New Zealand for Canada. The Canadian authorities have said that they would be glad to institute an arrangement which would permit relatives in Canada of New Zealand prisoners of war, or Canadian war service groups, to adopt New Zealand prisoners of war for the purpose of sending personal parcels.
Should .any interested New Zealand next-of-kin care to avail themselves of these facilities it will be necessary for
hem to seed complete information to the headquarters of the 1 Prisoners of War. Inquiry Office, Wellington. as if reels are sent' by the Canadian authorities they cannot also be sent from New Zealand.
Relatives are again informed that food parcels cannot be sent to prisoners by private individuals
