Sergeant' Hinton’s V.C. was confer red in most unusual circumstances, on direct instructions from the King. Let ters from, prisoners of war in Germany praising Sergeant . Hinton’s courage came, to London through the Red Cross and the King, who takes the keenest personal interest in the welfare of wounded prisoners, ordered an immediate investigation with a
view to. conferment of the V.C.
