AWARDS TO AIRMEN

D.S.O. And D.F.C. •Two further awards to New Zealand airmen are announced by Air Headquarters, Wellington. The recipients are. Wing Commander Geoffrey Twyford Jarman, D.F.C., who has been awarded the Distinguished Service Order, and Flight Lieutenant Roy Douglas Max, who was awarded, the Croix de Guerre in May, 1940. and who has been awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. • ' Wing Commander F. T. Jarman, D.F.C., was born in 1906 and was educated at' Wellington College. In 1930 he was selected for a short service commission in the Royal Air Force. His wife is Mrs. G. T. Jarman, 63 Penrose Avenue, Lower Hutt.

Flight Lieutenant R. D. Max was born at Richmond, Nelson, in 1918, and was educated at Nelson College. , As a schoolboy he showed a keenness for aeronautics, and while still at college obtained his A license with the Marlborough Aero Club. He was selected for a short-service commission in 1937, and after further training at the Auckland Aero Club and at Wigram proceeded to take up his commission with, the Royal Air Force in 1938. In May, 1940, he was awarded the Croix de Guerre for “daring operations with bombers over the German lines.” His next-of-kin at the time of enlistment was his father, Mr A. E. Max, Brightwater, Nelson.
