RUGBY
Brilliant Army Team.— The recently reorganized Army team rose to great heights in beating St. Patrick’s/College Old Boys 34-19 in the main game at Athletic Park. The game was held by spectators to have been the finest display of open Rugby witnessed for some time. Perfect co-ordination between backs and forwards enabled Army to take control of the play from an early stage, and thereafter they delighted the crowd with scintillating movements from all parts of Ihe field. Bowman was a' his best among the Army forwards, concentrating on tight play and holding the side together well, thus leaving Rankin and Finlay to indulge to their heart’s content in loose football. Edlin gave fine service from the scrum. McPhail and Berghan teamed admirably in the five-eighths, and gave Ewart at centre ample opportunities, which lie turned to advantage, he and Donovan figuring in numerous scoring movements. St. Patrick’s were well beaten, but were not disgraced. Todd played a grand game and was one of the best' forwards on the field. For Army Ewart (3), Donovan (2), Rankin, Finlay and Fraser scored tries. Edlin converted two and kicked a penalty goal, and Finlay kicked a penalty goal. For St. Patrick’s Todd scored three tries and kicked two penalty goals. Ransfield converted two tries. Referee, Mr. B. P. Wilson.
