Wellington Gunner Drowned
The ! following official casualty list from the Western Desert was issued
recently : — Gunner Herbert Arrowsmith Hamblin, previously reported missing, believed drowned. Death now confirmed by unit. Father: Mr. C. A. Hamblin, 35 Hobart Street, Miramar, Wellington. Private Hugh Thomas Philip Wareing, slightly wounded in Egypt, remained with unit. Mother : Mrs. M. T. Wareing, Turners Road, Ouruhia. Canterbury. Act. Sergeant John Jemas Henderson, killed in Egypt as result of road accident. Wife : Mrs. E. E. Henderson, 10 Kyarra Road. Glen Iris, Melbourne. Australia. Dannevirke Showgrounds Camp. . The Dannevirke Showgrounds are again occupied by 'troops, more than 700 Territorials having entered .camp to carry out three months’ training. The units in camp are the Second Composite Company, N.Z.A.S.C., commanded by Captain Phillips, comprising 12 officers and 500 other ranks, mostly from Wellington ; the Second Field Ambulance, composed of 12 .officers and 170 other tanks, commanded by Lieutenant-Colonel W. Shirer. N.Z.M.C. ; and the Provost i Company of two officers and 60 other ranks, commanded by Lieutenant L. J. Maule. Major J. Reidy. N.Z.S.C.. is the camp commandant, and Captain F. McKenzie adjutant and quartermaster.
Three young plumbers are in the same tent at a militia camp and are described as being excellent soldiers. Their success in kit inspections is encouraging the profession to believe that this will finally end the old jokes about plumbers’ memories.
