TRAINING FOR OVERSEAS SERVICE

Approximately 650 troops have- been mobilized to train for overseas service in a military camp that lias been es tablushed on the showgrounds, Palmerston North. (The men are engineers and machine-gunners, and were posted to the Palmerston North camp after their general holiday leave. The camp commandant is Major E. A. Porritt, M. C., N.Z.T.C., formerly of. Trentham, and the adjutant is Second Lieutenant 11. 11. Mackrell, M.M., N.Z. T.S., Palmerston North. Captain 11. Beveridge is the supervising . quartermaster, and the 'engineer officers are , Major A. 11. Currie, Lieutenant H. M. Reid and- Second Lieutenant F. E. Foster. Second Lieutenant A. G. Kinder is in charge of the machine-gunners. The men are all housed under canvas, the main body of the tents being situated at the rear of the main stand, and meals are served in one of the halls. The training the units will undergo will includ'd tactical exercises at various points aboutthe countryside close to Palmerston North. The camp is a self-contained unit with its own wet and dry canteen and Y.M.C.A. facilities.
