Bomb Injuries In England

Advice that their son,. Private Jack G. Olsen, a member ’ of the second echelon in England, is to be sent home because of injuries which he received from a bomb has been received by Mr. and Mrs. 11. Olsen, Hastings.

When a heavy bomb landed 50 yards from where he was in camp it caused terrific- concussion, and as a *result he lost his eyesight temporarily. The sight of his right eye, however, has returned, but it is not known whether he will be permanently blind in the-left eye. A letter from him also mentioned that he had had a piece of shrapnel extracted,from his knee,: and he expressed disappointment that he had been >pronounced medically unfit. It is not known by his parents when he will reach Hastings.

Into the recruiting office went Rastus to do his bit. He wanted to join the infantry.

“Sorry, sonny, Full up in the infantry.” Then coaxingly, “How about a cavalry regiment?”

Rastus took up his hat hurriedly. “No, suh. No cavalry foi' me, suh. When dey sound de retreat ah sho don’ want to be hampered by no hoss.”
