Minister Satisfied With Expansion Satisfaction with the expansion of I lie New Zealand Air Force was ex pressed by the Minister-of Defence, Mr •Jones, who stated that the strength at present was 3604 airmen with 387 offi cers. Thirty-six pilot-officers were en route to England, and 2006 applicants awaited interview by the selection com inittee, the number in the various towns being as follows: —Auckland. 579; Wellington. 680 : Christchurch, 233; Dunedin, 122; Invercargill, 52; Blenheim, 14; Nelson. 25; New Plymouth, 70; Napier. 152; Palmerston North, 80; Wanganui. 80.
