Soldiers Presenting Arms
The sight of soldiers presenting arirn when lining the route for Mr. Savage’s funeral has caused a correspondent to question why the order to reverse arms was not given. The Army Department explains that the reason is to be found in an amendment to ceremonial manuals received in New Zealand from England last year. The old order of marching with arms reversed was then succeeded by one-to march at the slept* while the order to rest on arms reversed was similarly replaced by one to present arms. ' Thus the procedure followed at the funeral was the correct present-day one.
