AMAZING PHENOMENA

Unprecedented Occurence at Trentham Military Camp ' DISTRIBUTION OF -FUNDS. An absolutely unique and astounding event took place on Saturday, 30th March, when without warning, and apparently with full knowledge of what was doing, a soldier attached to the Pay Staff performed an act that will go down in history, an act that will be | spoken of with awe and reverence by future generations. Although he had not been visiting the canteen and as far as can be ascertained had not been in the sun. for any length of time, this soldier, who must remain anonymous, rose to his • feet in the middle of the office and in a clear unhesitating voice remarked that any member of the staff who was financially embarrassed need only apply to him and he would be pleased to advance a sum of money. A stunned silence ensued, the staff gazed at each other with a wild surmise, and then the avalanche rolled over the philanthropist. Five minutes later, somewhat bruised, his pockets torn in places by too eager applicants, the distributor of largesse staggered away muttering to himself. • Three large sheets of foolscap were covered with entries. The staff went to town. The name of the soldier must remain secret; the only clue to his identity that can be given is this: He is a somewhat O.S. gentleman who frequently refers to some period in the past when he and, another person, presumably female, were young. Apparently he and this other person were in the habit of making touching remarks to each other in the early morning and more particularly in the month of May. We trust that this will be enough for the wise.
