CAMP CONCERT

Bagpipes Presented On Tuesday, 12th March, at the Y.M.C.A. hut. at Trentham, a set of bagpipes given by the Wellington Association of Scots Societies, was handed over to A Company, 22nd Wellington Infantary Battalion. Mr. J. G. McKenzie, president of the association, in making the presentation, said that in every part of the world the pipes were heard, and it was fitting, when men were going overseas, that they should march to inspiring pipe music. Accepting the gift, Captain Baine thanked the Scots societies for their generosity, and at his call the assembled men gave cheers and applause for Mr. MacKenzie, followed by the singing of “For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow.” During the evening an excellent conceit programme was given. Pipe selections were contributed by Pipers McLeod and Graham ,songs by Messrs Stratmore, Fordie, Norman Grenfell, Mrs. Halvorsen, Mrs. H. McWhinnie, elocutionary items by Mr. J. B. Thomson, Highland dances by Misses Grace Mackay, Daisy Marshall, Jean O’Connor, and x Margaret McKenna, and recitations by Mr. T. Walker. Miss Grace Mackay played the bagpipes. Mrs. F. W. London was the accompanist. At the conclusion of the concert Lieutenant-Coloned L. W. Andrew, V.C., thanked Mr. MacKenzie and the entertainers. Afterwards the guests were entertained at supper by Lieu-tenant-Colonel Andrew and his officers. Besides the artists there were present Mr. and Mrs. Mackay, Mr. and Mrs. Hogg, Mr. and Mrs. Glen, Miss MacKenzie, Mrs. Denistoun-Wood, Mrs. Horton, Mrs. Gwen Webb, and Messrs. J. Lowrie and James Sterling.
