TEMPERANCE PAGEANT.

Under tin* auspices of the Auckland District a Temperance Pageant was held in the Beresford Street Congregational Hall, on Saturday, the Bth October. This Pageant depicted the work of the W.C.T.U. in a great many countries of the world, and was illustrated by over 30 children from different L.T.Ls. and Bands of Hope, carrying banners showing the names of these countries. Quite a numlier of countries were further represented by the members of the various unions who were dressed in the costumes of the countries they represented. Britannia was represented by Mrs. Holmes, New Zealand by Mrs. Pace, Scotland by Miss Wallace, France by Mrs. Joiner, America by Mrs. Bragg. India by Mrs. Williams, Japan by Miss Cowan, China by Mrs. AMely, and Norway by Mrs. Tennant. During the scenes musical items were rendered by Mis. Kersey, Miss Alice Himmer, Mrs. A. L. Lewis. Mrs. E. Rimmer, and the Rev. A. E. Orr. The Pageant was under the direction of Mrs. H. Kaspar, Mrs. K. Rimmer and Mrs. A. L. Lewis. The accompanists were Mrs. N. Walker and Mrs. Cnipp. The Auckland W.C.T.U. was represented by Mrs. Rrocklehurst, Mrs. Heard and Mrs. McKinnie. A short temperance play was also given, those taking part Ixdng Miss Read. Miss Cowan, and Mr. Hill, also a little girl. During the evening a short talk on the vvoik done by the W.C.T.U. was g ven by Mrs. Kaspar. While the solo, the “Old Rugged Cross” was being sung by Miss Alice Rimmer a young girl was seen clinging to the cross.
