They are waking, waking, waking, In the Fast and ; n the West; They are throwing wide the windows to the sun • And they ‘ •(> the dawn is breaking, And they cpmer with unrest, For they know their werk is waiting to he done. They are waking in the eitv, They are waking in the farm, They are waking in the hondoir and the mill ; And their hearts are full of pity As they sound the loud alarm To the sterner* who in darkness slumber still. In tin* guarded harem prison. When* thev mother under veil*. And all eehoes of the world are walled aw ay. Though the sun has not yet iK»n, Yet the ancient darkness pahs. And the sleepers in tin ir slumber dream of day. Oh, their dreams shall grow in Fph niL ur T* 11 each sleeper wakes and stirs; Fill she breaks from old ti adit ions and is free ; And tlie world shall rise and render Onto woman what is hers And welcome in tin* race that is to he..
