DUPLEX

• The Duplex scheme has met with such great success m our Parish finances, that we cannot be otherwise than grateful to those who navo joined it and contributed to this success. They have shown a desire to help torward the work of God's Kingdom, both at home and abroad, and we hope the Parish will never go bacic on the step forward it has taken. To say this, does not mean that it has reached a point at which we may rest on our way. The scheme demands a considerable amount of work on cne part of those who have the responsibility of keeping the accounts and judiciously keeping m touch with the individual subscribers. This is no light task when it is remembered that about 200 accounts have to be kept, and each separate envelope recorded as it is received m the church. We would therefore ask individual members not to feel 'hurt if they are reminded periodically when they are m arrears, nor distressed when, having forgotten how tfaey stood, they do not happen to receive a reminder, and the weeks have slipped by more quickly than they imagined, the arrears appearing to be unexpectedly heavy. The important principle upon which the system is based is not always quite realised, which is, that the envelope is intended to be a weekly reminder of what we have voluntarily decided to set apart for Gd's work, and tliat the amount should! be put aside m the envelope each week as it comes round and kept until such time as it can be placed m the box m the Church. If this were done systematically, arrears woud not accumulate until they become a burden, destroying the joy of giving, and there would be no need for the. secretary to send any reminders. May we commend this to members as the ideal way, except, of course, m the case of those whose promises are halfyearly or yearly. Provision is made tor anyone who wishes to do so, either to increase or diminish the amount of their promise so long as they make known their wish to the secretary, or to the churchwardens. We thank all those who have joined the scheme and enabled it to achieve the success it has, and commend it to all who wish to see the efforts of their ohurch flourishing. Those efforts are not limited to local needs but also cover the social work of our Diocese carried on by the St. Mary's and Children's Homes, as well as the wider work m the Mission field for which we ate responsible.
