Ordination.
On Trinity Sunday the Bishop of the Diocese held an ordination iin St. Luke's Church/ Rotorua, o when Mr W. S/ G.. Cameron;- was? ..ordained Deacon. It was the first, time an orrdination sendee had taken .place yin f3t. Luke's and the congregation was deeply interested . m: the? event. I /The candidate was presented by Arehdea-: con F. W. Chatterton, who. also preached a sermon.'; The Litany? was read by the Rev, -H.W Klingender, Vicar of Whakatane, .-and. the:. Rev. Paora Temuera ' acted as Bishop's chaplain and carried the pastoral staff. The, whole .congregation • remained to r the end of the7s;ervice- and a large number communicated. The service was very impressive, and many who had never- taken part m an, ordination service before, -realised for the first time what ordination meant. While- the Cathedral : is.-iio doubt the appropriate place" for dinations, ■■ there is much to be said for occasional exceptions to this rule.; Mr Cameron received a- titlecurate to the ■ Vicar- of .^Rotoruaf He has unfortunately . been laid aside for the last three months m consequence of a serioiis accident- to his knee, but is now slowly recovering. ■'■■ •. : ■:'.. 7;7" 7-!, The Rev. ■ E., C. Rev. Alfred Neild, M.A., preached a "most impressive sermon on the Seven Churches of Asia and the judgment passed upon each by our Lord m Glory.
The Archdeacon of Waiapu and the Dean, together with • the Canons, joined the Bishop m the laying on of hands. The music of the Eucharist (Merbeeke) was splendidly rendered by the Cathedral choir and the visiting clergy, of whom a large number were present.
The Cathedral choir are to be congratulated on their rendering of the plainsong, including the Veni Creator, to its traditional melody.
