Return of appointments &c., since the publication of last list:—

Rewards. The sum of £3 has been awarded to Constable Robert Bain Dunedin Police, in acknowledgement of special vigilance shewn in effecting the arrest of Charles Hiller, sentenced to twelve months imprisonment with hard labour for stealing from clothes lines and dwellings, and for the recovery of the stolen property. • The sum of £2 has been awarded to Sergeant George

B. Purdue, Invercargill Police in acknowledgement of special vigilance shewn in effecting the arrest of Ah Kee and Ah Sing sentenced to 9 months imprisonment each with hard labour, at the last sitting of District Court at Invercargill, for stealing from a shop, and for the recovery of the stolen property.

The sum of £5 has been awarded to Sergeant Cassells, Cromwell Police, for praiseworthy tact and vigilance exhibited in effecting the arrest of John Levy alias Goldburg sentenced at the last sittings of the Supreme Court at Dunedin, to IS months imprisonment with hard labour for stealing gold and money from a hotel, and for the recovery of the stolen property.

The sum of £3 has been awarded to Constable John Grant, Waikouiati Police, for special shrewdness exhibited in arresting (from description only) Samuel Gibson alias Wilson who was charged with obtaining a cheque by false pretences and with larceny as a bailee, and sentenced at the last sitting of the Supreme Court at Dunedin, to 21- years imprisonment with hard labour.

The black retriever dog reported to have been stolen from Port Chalmers, the property of Dr. o‘Donoghue, has been recovered and forwarded to the owner.

Between 5. 30. p.m. on the 20th, and 7. 30. a.m. on the 21st ultimo, the name on the Railway Station house at Glendermid, Sawyer’s Bay, was defaced by being besmeared with tar, and the name Glenfullam, written with tar on the building.

George Stewart, charged on warrant with arson at Sandridge, Victoria, has been arrested by the Wellington Police.

Vide Otago Police Gazette 1874, page 3.04, and Canterbury Police Gazette 1874, page 158. Harry Walmer or Waldon, charged on warrant with sodomy, has been arrested by Constable John Rooney, Blueskin police, and remanded to Timaru.

On the 27th ultimo, a large square of glass, and a specie jar ’were broken, in the shop of Henry Thomas, chemist, Walker-street, Dunedin. Value, £3. A porter bottle was found in the shop, which must have been thrown through the window.

During the nights of the 22nd and 23rd ultimo, at Manuka Creek, the handles were cut off two picks and two long-handled shovels, and two hand-carts run over an embankment, the property of M‘Kenzie Bros. ~

The box of jewellery containing 10 rings, found at Port Chalmers, on the 23rd ultimo, has been claimed by a hawker named Solomon.
