INQUESTS.

A coroner’s inquest was held on the 15th January, 1864, at the Thistle Inn, East Taieri, by T. M. Hocken, Esq., coroner, on the body of Patrick Quinlivian, aged 34 years, a clrayman, who was accidentally killed by his dray upsetting and falling on him at the East Taieri, on the 14th of January, 1864. Verdict, accidental death.

A magisterial inquiry was held on the 23rd January, 1864, at Queenstown, by Richmond Beetham, Esq., Resident Magistrate, on the body of Cornelius Reardon, aged 21 years, a miner, who was accidentally drowned while rafting some timber across the Shotover River, on the 22nd of January, 1864. Verdict accordingly. Deceased was a native of the Parish of Glynn, County Limerick, Ireland.

shaped scar, on left eyebrow, dressed ■ in moleskin trousers, flannel drawers, boot on right foot, a long boot of grained leather, and woollen socks, leather belt round the waist and a black silk neckerchief, which was found floating down the river on the 22nd January, 1864. Verdict that the deceased came by his death by drowning, but when and in what manner he came into the water there was no evidence to show.

A coroner’s inquest was held on the 9th February, 1864, at the Octagon Hotel, Dunedin, by Thomas M. Hocken, Esq., Coroner, on the body of. George . Hutchison, who was accidentally killed, a quantity of earth falling upon him while working at an excavation in 'Moray., Place, Dunedin, on the 9th of February, 1864. Verdict accordingly. Deceased was an Englishman, and arrived in this Province per ship Alfred Lemont, in September, 1863.

A magisterial inquiry was held on the 16th of January, 1864, at Portuguese Flat, by. W. L. Simpson, Esq., Resident Magistrate, on the body 'of 'Bernard Trainer, aged 30 .years, a sawyer, who was found drowned in the Clutha River, on the 13th of January., 1864. Verdict accidental death by drowning.

Hocken, Esq., Coroner, on the body of John Brown, aged 25 years, a labourer, who committed suicide by hanging himself at • the Half-way Bush, on the sth February, 1864. Verdict, deceased committed suicide while labouring , under temporary, insanity’. Deceased was a native of Northallerton, Yorkshire, England, where . his father resides, and a brother, Richard Brown, is reported to he living with a Mr. George Coulton, at Tam worth, New South Wales.
