Warrant issued by the Hobart Town Bench for the apprehension of John Brown, late of Hobart Town, charged with embezzling the sum of nineteen shillings and sixpence,, the monies of the Trustees of the Loyal Perseverance Lodge of Odd Fellows, Hobart Town, age 35 years, 5 feet 8 inches high, fair complexion, black hair, brown whiskers, a carpenter by trade, a native of London, good address, known to J. F. Weale, detective in charge, Dunedin. Was seen at Bluff Harbour about the 14th of April last.

He is about 30 years old, sft. 4in. high is a very small, delicate person, of a shy, awkward, and sneaking manner, and very inquisitive; dark brown hair, almost black, full beard and moustache ; has lost the sight of left e—but this is only noticeable by a small scar on the pupil; walks with a particularly quick step, and without straightening his knees much ; he is well educated, a B. A. of Cambridge, dresses well, and has the manner and appearance of a gentleman. It is supposed that he is gone to either Victoria or . Queensland, and if so, he will, in all probability, practise as a surveyor, for which he has lately qualified himself, and purchased instruments, or he may write for a newspaper, for which he is equally well qualified. A warrant is about to be issued for this offender, whose photograph is filed in the Commissioner’s office.
