Hamilton

(From our own Correspondent.) May 7. A mission conducted at the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary, Hamilton, by two Redemptorists Rev, Fathers Gilmartin and Glover was concluded last Sunday evening. Throughout the fortnight the attendances both at the early morning Mass and the evening devotions were highly gratifying, and on the concluding evening, when the Papal Blessing was administered, extra seating had to be provided. ‘ Arising out of the visit of some Health Inspectors to the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary on a recent Sunday morning, and the

discovery there of several children under the age of-sixteen, the Hamilton parish priest, Father Bleakley, was charged at court last week with aiding and abetting an off- , ence under the Health regulations. Mr. E. „ > A. Cox, who defended Father Bleakley, submitted that no case whatever had been made out against his client. There was nothing whatever to show that Father Bleakley was in any way aware of the children’s presence at church. After asking the police officer in charge of the prosecution whether he thought there was any case to answer the Magistrate dismissed the charge without asking to hear any evidence for the defence. The charges against the parents’ was dismissed without prejudice on a preliminary point raised by Mr. Cox that the police had failed to produce the authoritative orde*. Mr. J. O’Grady, chief reporter of the M aiwato Times, was the recipient of a presentation from the members of the staff to mark his advent into the matrimonial state. On the occasion of their approaching marriage a valedictory social was tendered Miss Joy Howe and Mr. F. AV. .Sullivan, by the Hamilton Operatic Society. The guests of the evening were also presented with a suitable token of the high esteem in which they are held.
