(From our own correspondent.) March 26. The Irish concert which was held in the Theatre Royal on St. Patrick’s Day, was a pronounced success. Every, item met with rounds of applause, and the promoters are to be congratulated on having brought to Taumarunui a number of clever artists, who would be heartily welcomed should they return at any time. The concert was noted by all to be the best ever held in Taumarunui. Those who contributed to the programme included Mr, and Mrs. C. I. Spillane, Misses Alice Wood and Eileen Roche (Wanganui), Mr. and Mrs. Whitty, Misses Smyth© and Whitty (Auckland). After the concert Rev. Father Duffy thanked the artists very sincerely for coming from such distances to help the people of Taumarunui to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in a fitting manner. He also thanked the members of the Lyric orchestra for their services, and Miss Adams for playing the accompaniments in such an accomplished manne. 1 . . The convent school picnic was held, on Monday (20th inst.), the children being taken by train to Matapuna racecourse. An excellent sports programme arranged by the mens’ committee was carried out, and added greatly to the enjoyment of the day, whilst a ladies’ committee provided an abundance of good things so much relished by the children.
