New Plymouth

(From our own correspondent.) November 13. As a witness of the terrible aviation tragedy, which occurred here on Thursday last, one cannot but be horrified at the suddenness with which the disaster overtook our town. After the number of successful flights the pilot had made, and especially the “stunts” carried out previous to the fateful trip, all felt confident that the machine had mastered the air. Unfortunately fate decreed otherwise, and the graceful machine swooped, carrying the pilot and his two passengers to their death. It is pleasing to note the stand that our M.P., Mr. S. G. Smith, has taken over the matter of the Marriage Amendment Bill, evidently he declines to be biassed by the influence of his confreres in Parliament. Rev. Father Prendergast is at present assisting Very Rev. Dean McKenna during Father Dillon’s illness.
