Rev. J. O'Neill, C.P., Marrickvillc, Sydney, was the guest of the Rev. Father Carran, Adm., at the Sacred Heart Presbytery, Ponsonby, last week. On Monday last he left on a visit to Rotorua. < ~ ' - •'_-•- ■-.•-■-^:-

On Good Friday evening his Lordship Bishop Cleary’s discourse at St. Patrick’s Cathedral was a meditation on the “Miserere,” which was listened to with wrapt attention. On Saturday morning Father Forde, Adm., was the celebrant of the Mass, Father O’Sullivan was deacon, Father Buckley subdeacon, and Father Bradley master of ceremonies. Rev. M. O’Ryan (late of St. Mary’s, West Melbourne) and Rev. W. O’Sullivan (late of Carlton, Melbourne) were guests at the Cathedral Presbytery last week, and were most helpful in the ceremonies of Holy Week. They left en route for Ireland by the Makura on Tuesday last. Rev. Father Donnelly, of Milton, Goulburn diocese, was a passenger by the same steamer. Rev. Father Hannigan, C.SS.R., is at present giving a -retreat to the students at the Sacred Heart College, Ponsonby, and on its conclusion will give a retreat at the Home for Aged Poor, under the care of the Little Sisters, Shelly Beach Road, Ponsonby; following this, retreats will be given to the boys at Takapuna Orphanage and the girls at the Pah Orphanage, Onehunga. A Napier M. 8.0.8. junior football team played a local M. 8.0.8. junior team in Auckland on Easter Monday. The game resulted in a win for Auckland by 11 points to G. The visitors proved to be a fine team, and their cnduct was the subject of much favorable comment. Mr. F. Tyne and his team are to be congratulated on the excellent impression they made on the people of the northern city. His Lordship the Bishop pontificated at High Mass on Easter Sunday. The Cathedral Choir, under the very able conductorsliip of Mr. Loo Whittaker, A.T.C.L., gave an excellent rendering of. Mercadante’s Mass in B flat. The rendering of “Victimae Pascbale,” “Haec, Dies,” and the “Hallelujah Chorus” deserve special mention, as docs also an “Ave Maria” (Kahn) which was very devotionally sung by Mr. Hubert Carter. Mr. G. Allen at the organ accompanied beautifully. The solemn ceremony of profession took place in the convent chapel of St. Mary’s, Ponsonby. on Wednesday last. His Lordship the Bishop celebrated the Mass and officiated at the ceremony. Very Rev, Dean Cahill, Very Rev. Chancellor Holbrook, and Father Carran assisted. Miss Moira Cavanagh (in religion Sister Mary Evangelist), daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Cavanagh, of Ngaruawahia, was the young lady who had the happiness of making her vows as a Sister of Mercy. The convent choir rendered the sacred music incidental to the occasion. At the conclusion of the ceremony the clergy and friends were guests of the community of Sisters of Mercy. The Vermont Street School held its first swimming carnival yesterday at Point Erin Baths.
