Wanganui

(From our own correspondent.)

JVf: :■■■■- ' : April .- B. i; Mrs. Roche, Hawera, mother of Sister Rosalie, of our Sisters of St. Joseph, died suddenly on Easter morning, at her home.—R.l.P. : ' / " •'/:.'■' ,*;!''

The Holy Week and Easter music was sung by our Girls' Choir, which, by the way, is becoming quite "grown up." The teacher selects beautiful music, and their true young voices are more than worth the trouble. Makes us wish we were young again.- "'■.• ...

The Holy Weeksimple nowadays— ; ceremonies. ; were well attended, rounding off very sweetly a very easy Lent. Would like to remark just here, though, that, we of "the Wellington archdiocese seem to have been the most chastened of all. Imagine the joy of being able to satisfy a holiday appetite with holiday : fare, knowing only " too well that the rest of the family at home in Wanganui was regaling itself with bread and marmalade for. breakfast.

We are extremely busy getting ready for the Prince's visit. Each day, almost, brings forth some new suggestion, and the inevitable newspaper correspondence for and against. A tentative sort of incomplete programme, shows, a review, two concerts, a reception and a supper, and 'a ''something" with the children. As the genial youth is only to be here a matter of 16 hours -or so, we shall be extremely lucky if he does not fall asleep on our hands. '•» :.l \- . * : :

Wanganui friends of Mr. and Mrs. Keegan and Mr. Hogan extend heartfelt sympathy towards them in their great sorrow. It is only a very few months since these two families left Wanganui for the Taranaki district to take up farming, and on Tuesday of this week Mrs. Hogan's body was brought back here for burial. Just a few days of serious illness and great suffering, and all was over. The late Mrs. Hogan was one of the convent old girls, her family having been associated with Aramoho for many, many years. —R.I.P. _..

Am a little late with news of St. Patrick's night social, but, as it was such a specially good one, must tell you something about it now. The mere fact of being able to get the big Drill Hal! was a novelty in itself, and the building was packed. Many, in fact, were turned away, and some very keen but not over-punctual card-players found on their arrival that every table was well filled. Supper and a social followed the euchre, and altogether a most enjoyable evening was spent. AVe have not heard exactly how much goes for each stall, but the apportionment is likely to be worth while.
