SISTERS OF MERCY, SOUTH DUNEDIN

On Tuesday, Feast of St. Teresa, a solemn ceremony of Profession and Reception took place in the chapel of the Sisters of Mercy, South Dunedin, when Sister Mary Dympna (Fenelon), Carlow, Ireland, hadthe privilege of pronouncing her holy vows. The young ladies who had the happiness of receiving the Habit of the Order were Miss Vera Marlow, Musselburgh, -Dunedin (Sister M. Lorenzo, her patron being St,.' Lawrence O’Toole); Miss E. Adamson, Alexandra, Central Otago (Sister M. Aidan) ; and Miss K., O’Regan, St. Bathans (Sister M. Celestine). The chapel was tastefully decorated for the occasion, and the solemn music incidental to the ceremony was devotionally rendered by the Sisters’ choir. In the absence of his Lordship the Bishop, Very Rev. J. Coffey, Adm., officiated, and was assisted by Fathers Delany and Rooney. A large number of relativesand friends witnessed the ceremony, and were afterwards entertained at dejeuner by the Community. Chaplain-Father P. J. O’Neill, who has just returned from the Front, was amongst the guests. On Monday, October 7, when a holiday was given to the schools to celebrate the recent victories gained by the Allies, the children of St. Vincent’s Orphan age, South Dunedin, were afforded a. happy diversion from the ordinary routine. Under the care of Mrs. Baker, they visited the Botanic Gardens, where a thoroughly enjoyable day was spent. The children of this institution have every reason to bo grateful to Mrs. Baker for her repeated kindnesses to them, as it is owing to her self-sacrifice that many of their pleasant outings have been made possible. On Sunday next, at 6 p.m., in the convent chapel of the Sisters of Mercy, a retreat for the Children of Mary, South Dunedin, will be opened by Father KilNrifle, O.SS.R. The members of the sodality and those who wish to join are cordially invited.
