His Lordship Bishop Verdon, accompanied by the Very Rev. P. Murphy (Riverton), left by the Mbnowai for Auckland on last Saturday. The Holy Rosary is being recited prior to the 7 o’clock Mass in St. Joseph’s Cathedral each morning during October. The devotion of the Forty Hours’ Adoration will commence to-morrow (Friday) at St. Joseph’s Cathedral after the Solemn High Mass, to he celebrated at 9 o’clock. A special sermon will be preached on Friday evening, and the concluding solemnities of the devotions will be observed on next Sunday evening. A very successful retreat, conducted by Father Kilbride, C.SS.R., during the past week for the members of St. Joseph’s Cathedral Sodality of the Children of Mary, was concluded on Sunday. After Vesper’s on Sunday evening at the Cathedral 15 aspirants were received in the sodality by Father Colley, Adm. Father Kilbride, C.SS.R., is engaged this week conducting a retreat for the members of the Sacred Heart Sodality of the Children of Mary, North-East Valley, Dunedin. On next Monday he is to commence a retreat for the Children of Mary at Invercargill, and later one for the inmates of the Home of the Little Sisters of the Poor, Anderson’s Bay, and another for the members of St. Patrick’s Sodality of the Children of Mary at South Dunedin.
