(From our own correspondent.) ■ - September 30. A four-nights’ bazaar in aid of the Basilica Organ Fund was opened in St. Joseph'’s Hall on TlfUrsday evening last 'by Right' Rev. Mgr. * Mackay, who, in declaring, the bazaar open for business, expressed hia pleasure at the large attendance and hoped that all
would experience a profitable evening— stall-holders in large financial returns and the patrons in value for their money. Business was brisk throughout the even- , ing and also on Friday and Saturday nights, when the "attractions included items by the pupils of the Convent Schools. To-night the hazaar closes with the drawing of prizes, and it is fully expected that, thanks to the generous donations in cash and kind by the parishioners and well-wishers, and the indefatigable efforts of the workers in connection with - the bazaar, a very satisfactory sum will be realised towards the worthy object for which the fancy fair was organised. The following were the stalls and stall-holders;No. 1 fancy stall: Mesdames Maxwell and Hannon ; No. 2 Fancy stall : Misses Cartwright, Lamb, and Falconer; produce, Mesdames Kelly and Wise ; sweet stalls, Misses O’Donnell ; the dip, Misses Cartwright refreshments, Mrs. Gamble and the Misses Gamble. On last Sunday morning week an exceptionally fine sermon was preached by Father Foley at St. Patrick’s Basilica. The preacher chose for his subject “Charity”or, rather, the lack of it, —and firmly convinced his attentive congregation of the Divine and "human detestation of the vendor of calumny, or of even mere petty gossip.
